Van Nistelrooy enjoyed a playing career that many could only dream of having played for PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United and Real Madrid. Since moving into coaching, the former striker has worked with the Netherlands national team and with PSV Eindhoven. As well as working as a youth coach, Van Nistelrooy was assistant manager to Ronald Koeman, before becoming head coach of the first team in March 2022.After winning the 2023 Johan Cruyff Shield and 2022–23 KNVB Cup, Van Nistelrooy stepped down in the summer of 2023 due to a lack of support from the club's hierarchy.
Joining Manchester United in 2001, Van Nistelrooy scored 150 goals in 219 games for the Red Devils before joining Real Madrid in 2006.
