Sir Jim Ratcliffe acknowledges the significant challenges facing Manchester United and anticipates a lengthy rebuilding process requiring multiple transfer windows.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has warned that it will take Manchester United 'two or three' summer transfer window s to fix all of their problems. The January transfer window opened on Wednesday, allowing clubs to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season. However, United say there is 'no money' to spend on new players this month, leaving manager Ruben Amorim waiting to see if the club can generate funds via player sales.
Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag in November and quickly changed United's style from a 4-3-3 to a 3-4-3. This has exposed a lack of quality in key areas, particularly at wing-back. Even without the financial constraints, United rarely make big January signings. Ten Hag didn't receive a permanent player in either of his January windows. United's decision to keep Ten Hag last summer, despite his struggles, and then appoint Amorim just months later risks setting back the club's long-term project. This means Ratcliffe's prediction that United need up to three summers to fix their issues could become even further stretched. 'We're sort of a bit handicapped in that sense, so I think we'll do a fairly good job,' Ratcliffe said, looking ahead to the 2024 summer window. 'It will take two or three summer windows to get to a better place. 'I'm not confident that we'll solve all the problems in the first transfer window.
