Manchester United have topped the Premier League Boxing Day games ranking as the club with the most victories. The analysis, assessing 32 years of matches played on December 26th, unveiled that Manchester United has clinched more Boxing Day triumphs than any other team, boasting 21 wins and scoring an impressive 76 goals. Conversely, Newcastle sit at the opposite end of the spectrum, having suffered the most losses on Boxing Day, with 15 defeats and a staggering 45 goals conceded against them.
The study also placed Manchester City, Everton, Chelsea, and Aston Villa among the ten teams with a mixed record of wins and losses during this festive period. According to survey results from 2,000 football enthusiasts, nearly 40% anticipate Boxing Day football with greater enthusiasm than any other date in the sporting year. It surpasses even the excitement of transfer deadline day and the Carabao Cup final. On average, a keen football fan is likely to watch around five matches on the day, accumulating upwards of 10 hours watching live sports. A spokesperson for Lottoland Sportsbook, who orchestrated the research, remarked: 'There's just so much to love about it, and the Boxing Day fixtures are among the first people will look out for when they are released.' The research also revealed that a quarter of supporters don't offer much empathy towards Premier League players having to 'work' on Boxing Day; over a third lack any sympathy at all. An additional 13 per cent use it as an opportunity to take a break from family duties and socialising.
