An analysis of Manchester United's signings under Erik ten Hag, examining their performance and value for money.

Ruben Amorim has been in charge of Manchester United for a month and will be aware of the size of the job that lies ahead. Amorim has implemented a new formation and United are developing a new style of play, but results have continued to be hit-and-miss, meaning a win is required on Boxing Day. United were hammered 3-0 by Bournemouth in their final game before Christmas and supporters left Old Trafford believing the squad needed another major overhaul in the summer.

Amorim inherited Erik ten Hag's squad - the Dutchman spent more than £400million - and how that money has been wasted has been a prominent talking point during a dismal season. So here are the 15 players signed by Ten Hag on permanent deals.... Tyrell Malacia Signed for: €15m (£12.9m), with a potential €2million in further add-ons. Verdict: Malacia briefly won Luke Shaw's starting role on the left side of the defence in his first season. He made 39 appearances in that campaign but picked up a knee injury, which required surgery. His first operation didn't go as planned and he required another round of knee surgery. It was great to see him return last month but he's looked below the level required. Christian Eriksen Signed for: Free transfer Verdict: Eriksen was brilliant in the first half of the 2022/23 season, starting alongside Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro in midfield and helping Ten Hag oversee a turnaround after a poor start. The Dane was a peripheral figure in his second campaign although he enjoyed an unlikely renaissance during Ten Hag's final weeks in charge. Amorim has hardly used the midfielder. Lisandro Martinez Signed for: €57.3m (£48.3m), with an additional €10m (£8.4m) in add-ons. Verdict: A lot was made of Martinez's height when he signed from Ajax but it didn't take him long to silence the critics. He became a huge fan favourite in his debut season, but has since struggled with a few different injury concerns and is short of form in this campaign. Casemiro Signed for: €7
