If he were to remain at United beyond next summer, then Martial would be due a testimonial by the time his extended contract expires, a staggering realistion of just how long he has been at the club despite so much inconsistency. It has not always been his fault, but ultimately Martial is the embodiment of United's transfer failings in the last decade: their tendency to spend big on unproven talent because they were not attractive enough to persuade top targets to join instead.
