Chido Obi-Martin, a rising star at Manchester United, is requesting to be known simply as 'Chido,' dropping 'Martin' from his name. His prolific scoring form for the under-18s, averaging a goal every 35 minutes in the FA Youth Cup, has attracted attention from the first team. Manchester United youth starlet Chido Obi-Martin is seeking a name change as he continues his impressive run at the youth level. The under-17 international has been training with the club's first team on several occasions under manager Ruben Amorim , who has recently lauded Obi-Martin's performances. However, the talented teenager has requested to be known simply as 'Chido,' dropping 'Martin' from his name.
Obi-Martin is currently on fire for the under-18s, averaging a goal every 35 minutes in the FA Youth Cup. His prolific scoring form has attracted attention, with many wondering if he'll be given a chance to shine with the first team. Amorim, while acknowledging Obi-Martin's talent and progress, played down the prospect of immediate promotion. He stated, 'He’s doing his job, he’s improving, he’s playing in the youth teams, and we have also other players that can play in that position. Rasmus and Josh are there, we bought these two players, so we need to improve them and then sometimes the confidence can change a player.'Amorim added, 'We will see in the end of the season, but, until then, we have two strikers that can score goals. They proved it in the past. Let’s see if we can improve as a team, to help them to score goals.' United's youth coach Adam Lawrence echoed Obi-Martin's natural goal-scoring ability, praising him as a 'natural goalscorer' following a hat-trick against Chelsea. Lawrence highlighted Obi-Martin's all-round game, stating, 'He wants to score goals and get himself into those positions, but I was really pleased with him just in terms of his link-up play — not just stretching and running in behind but recognizing when to show into feet, how to use his body to shield the ball and when to bring others into play.
