Manchester United's 16-year-old defender Godwill Kukonki has impressed head coach Ruben Amorim and has been included in the squad for the first time in his career against Arsenal. Amorim praised Kukonki's maturity and readiness for Premier League standards.
The Manchester Evening News revealed on Wednesday morning that Kukonki would be included in the United squad for the first time in his career against Arsenal at The Emirates.
The promising young defender is seen as someone who possesses the required technical and physical qualities to excel in senior football. Kukonki is naturally left-footed and has operated as a centre-back and as a left-back when starring for a talented Under-18 side this season.ALSO READ: United include exciting 16-year old in squad
"Yeah, of course," Amorim said when asked whether he was impressed with Kukonki. "He's 16 years old but he impressed me a lot, so it's also a sign to the youth players that they can be here. Kukonki travelled to Ipswich Town for Amorim's first game in charge but didn't make the squad but United felt that opportunity was a valuable learning experience. The youngster is understood to be a laid back character and his maturity has impressed Amorim, who could hand the first debut of his tenure out before the end of the season.
