Manchester United are struggling to find their footing at Old Trafford, with recent home defeats and an atmosphere of nervousness threatening their progress. Ruben Amorim, the manager, recognizes the growing anxiety among players and fans, highlighting it as a key issue to overcome.
How will the nerves be on Monday night then? In the wake of Manchester United 's pre-Christmas defeat to Bournemouth, Ruben Amorim identified nervousness and anxiety as a problem to be overcome, for his team and the supporters. The biggest club stadium in England has lost its fear factor once again. In fact, the only team who fear playing at Old Trafford right now are Manchester United .
After back-to-back defeats to Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth at home, nobody will be relishing the visit of in-form Newcastle. Speaking after the defeat to the Cherries, a 3-0 loss that began with another set-piece goal, Amorim identified the nerves that gripped the stadium when that first chance to put the ball into the box arrived as a problem. He stressed that everybody was tired with what was going on now, an emotion that will only have increased after the Boxing Day defeat to Wolves. 'In this moment, everything is so hard,' said Amorim. 'At a club like Manchester United, to lose 3-0 at home, it's really tough for everybody. 'Of course the fans are really disappointed and tired. You can feel it in the stadium in the first play. At the first goal-kick with Andre Onana, he's thinking what to do and pushing the other guys and everybody is so anxious. 'I understand that, but we have to face it. We have to face it and focus on the next game. We know what to do, we have to address a lot of things but we are ready to do it.' The basis of any good team and of any improvement comes at home. The success in Erik ten Hag's first season was built on an excellent campaign at Old Trafford, eventually reaching 31 games unbeaten before losing to Brighton early last season. That defeat sparked a rapid change. Just as it looked like Old Trafford was becoming a fortress again, it all unravelled. That defeat to Brighton in September 2023 has sparked a run of 13 home defeats in 39 games in all competitions, and United have lost 10 of their last 29 in the Premier Leagu
