Former Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre believes the club should be watching Bryan Mbeumo's progress at Brentford closely.

Mikael Silvestre believes that Manchester United should consider signing Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo . The Cameroon international has been one of the Premier League 's most consistent performers this season, scoring 10 goals and providing two assists in 16 matches. Mbeumo has been crucial for Brentford since joining from Troyes for a club-record £5.8 million fee in August 2019, helping them gain promotion to the top flight in his second season.

Mbeumo has established himself as a Premier League player over the last couple of years and his output has improved this season. Newcastle were linked with a move for Mbeumo in the summer, but Silvestre has claimed that United should be monitoring the forward ahead of a potential transfer. Speaking to Norske Bettingsider, former United defender Silvestre said: 'What Bryan Mbeumo has been doing for Brentford is a credit to him because things were never going to be easy when it came to replacing the goals of Ivan Toney. I do think that top clubs like Manchester United should be keeping a close eye on his progress this season, it’s a big time in his career at the age of 25 to see if he can make that step up.' Silvestre continued to praise Mbeumo, who has helped fill the goalscoring void left by Toney at Brentford this season, suggesting that he has what it takes to impress and shine at United. 'I think it's a decisive season for him personally and I think he'd have the character to be a success at Old Trafford,' Silvestre added. 'I can't see him going to Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester City yet, but he is full of confidence.' United are back in action when they travel to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Thursday
