Head coach contracts seem like they give schools a lot of wiggle room to fire coaches for cause. Why do coaches agree to contracts with undefined terms like “moral turpitude” that could be used to squeeze out underperformers? — David M., Orlando
As to the question of why coaches agree to these clauses in their contracts, it’s not unique to coaches. Most employment contracts I’m aware of have some sort of version of the moral turpitude clause. Perhaps Tucker’s agent, Neil Cornrich, should have pushed for easily defined language. But the bigger problem for a nine-figure coach is that it doesn’t take much for such a high-profile figure to bring “public disrespect, contempt or ridicule upon the university.
