Figures show knife crime has rocketed in the UK over the last decade
A new map shows the number of people caught carrying knives across Merseyside. Retailers have called for a clampdown on online sales of “zombie-style” blades in the wake of the tragic attack in Southport. Three young girls, Bebe, six, Elsie, seven and Alice aged nine were fatally stabbed during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class at the Hart Space in Southport on Monday, July 29.
But it was 22% lower than the 1,560 serious crimes recorded in Merseyside in the year ending March 2023, the highest year for knife crime in Merseyside on record. Crime figures also show that 475 offences of possessing a knife were recorded in Merseyside last year. That was 15% lower than the previous year, but 64% higher than the 290 offences recorded a decade ago. In the last three years, 1,580 crimes of possession of a knife have been recorded in Merseyside.
