The statistics, compiled by Shelter, suggest that 1,240 people will be homeless across Lancashire, including around 480 children

Hundreds of people will be homeless in Lancashire this Christmas, as shocking new figures are revealed.

Preston and Blackburn with Darwen also appear high up on the regional list with an estimated 199 and 157 homeless people in each borough respectively. Lancaster is fourth with 145 and South Ribble is fifth with 131, while Wyre has the lowest number of estimated homeless people with six.Newham in London has the highest rate of homelessness in the country. An estimated 19,000 people are homeless in the borough, including more than 9,500 children, or one in every 18 residents.

The government’s own data shows that almost half of families have been there for over two years. The chronic shortage of homes for social rent has left over 1.3m households on social housing waiting lists across the country.
