Three U.S. cities in Texas and Nevada are facing record temperatures as a result of the West's heat wave.
Residents of three U.S. cities have been warned to expect 'extreme heat' through Wednesday that is likely to affect 'most health systems, heat-sensitive industries and infrastructure,' according to the National Weather Service .A Tuesday update from the agency forecasts 'extreme' heat for Las Vegas and San Antonio and McAllen in Texas, with 'major' heat warnings in place for nine cities in California, Arizona, Texas and New Mexico.
'A wider 'major' NWS heat warning is in force for a wider area of southern Texas and New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah and California's Central Valley. This also 'affects anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration' and is likely to affect 'some health systems.'Newsweek reached out to the NWS by phone on Wednesday for further comment.
