A U.S. Air Force reconnaissance plane has swept the North Korean border for the second time in a week.
The United States has continued to keep tabs on North Korea with an hourslong reconnaissance flight along the Korean demilitarized zone—the second such operation in a week. The sortie was flown by an RC-135U Combat Sent, one of only two still operated by the U.S. Air Force. It left a base in Japan on Thursday morning and spent about 90 minutes in South Korean airspace, just south of the DMZ, landing six hours later, according to aircraft-tracking website Flightradar24.
The six-hour round trip from the East China Sea to the Sea of Japan—known in both Koreas as the East Sea—would have covered at least 2,000 miles, or roughly half the aircraft's stated operational range. The U.S. Department of Defense does not comment on specific operations. South Korea's Defense Ministry could not be reached for comment before publication.
