Data shows that some people may be 'hidden' from the extra support they are entitled to
Two in five people in Merseyside are registered disabled - but more than a quarter don’t claim benefits and may be “hidden” from extra support they could be entitled to. Today is International Day of Persons with Disabilities, an annual observance supported by the United Nations since 1992. It aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities at every level of society and development and raise awareness of their challenges.
However, Wirral has a slightly higher proportion of registered disabled people , the highest in Merseyside. You can see how your area compares using our interactive map International Day of Disabled Persons has now championed the rights of disabled people and pushed for meaningful change for three decades. And while there have been improvements to outcomes for disabled people, there are still wide disparities.
