As the government seeks to upgrade the country’s fishery sector, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. ordered different agencies to develop the necessary infrastructure and facilities.
During a briefing with key officials of the Department of Agriculture and other concerned agencies, Tuesday, Feb. 28, Marcos, who also heads the agriculture department, tackled with them the the crisis in fishery production after discussing the rice and livestock supply.
Marcos noted that the Philippines’ fisheries production is still inadequate, saying that’s why the country should look at “mariculture or those fishes in the sea.” In an effort to increase the nation’s fish stock output, President Marcos said he sent instructions to several agencies on how to create an agricultural plan, with a particular emphasis on the fishing industry.
The restoration and upgrading of fish port complexes as well as the establishment of the agricultural and fisheries machinery and equipment service center are examples of DA interventions targeted at enhancing the production of fundamental agricultural commodities.
