'If only we’d all been thinking more like Margaret 50 years ago, we might be living in a very different world – and we’d look pretty good for it, too,' writes BritishVogue's oliviasinger of the British Designer's 50th anniversary.
It wouldn’t be very Margaret Howell to make a fuss about an anniversary - not even, it seems, her brand’s 50th. The show that marked the occasion was just as clean, calm and collected as ever; held in the same show space as always; at the same time as always; starred the same sorts of lovely clothes as always.
Since she founded her eponymous brand, Howell has certainly been of the evolution, not revolution school of thinking; her seasonal runways offer slight variations on her classic tropes, minute adjustments to fits and fabrics rather than radical reinvention . But did it feel any different composing such a monumental show? “Not really,” said Howell backstage in her typically forthright manner.
