Finance guru and Sydney Roosters Football Club director Mark Bouris has revealed the financial reality behind elite sporting clubs.
Mr Bouris is the chairman of financial planning and loans business Yellow Brick Road and has served as a director of the Sydney Roosters Football Club since 2003.In the latest episode released on Tuesday, Mr Bouris spoke to human resources expert Shelley Johnson to discuss managing people in the workplace and hiring practices in business.
“If we apply the sporting lens to this, and think about Penrith right now, one of the things the Penrith Panthers has done really well is talent development,” she said.“As business owners, do we have a solid development program? We’re thinking about our team, not just now but five years from now.” The former Celebrity Apprentice host disagreed with Ms Johnson’s point and said the analogy “doesn’t work in business”.“Football clubs don’t make money, they’re sponsored and they break even at best."
“They’re there to put on entertainment. You can take a five-year view, or a ten-year or a long-term view because you’re really there to break even.
