Three-time world snooker champion Mark Williams required supplemental oxygen during a tournament in Lhasa, Tibet, due to the extreme altitude. Williams, alongside fellow snooker pros Judd Trump, Ding Junhui, and Xiao Guodong, participated in the Tianren Cup, Lhasa Winter Plateau Snooker Challenge. The event took place in Lhasa, which sits at nearly 12,000 feet above sea level, a height known to cause altitude sickness. While Williams reported feeling fine and experiencing no lasting effects, the high altitude proved a challenge, with even Ronnie O'Sullivan needing oxygen during a similar event in Tibet last year.

The altitude in Tibet was no laughing matter for Mark Williams Mark Williams had to be hooked up to an oxygen tank during a snooker exhibition played in the spectacular setting of Lhasa, Tibet . The three-time world champion was joined by Judd Trump, Ding Junhui and Xiao Guodong at the Tianren Cup, Lhasa Winter Plateau Snooker Challenge which runs from 5-7 January. Lhasa is just short of 12,000 feet above sea level, making altitude sickness common and Williams was feeling it during the event.
