Marc Marquez acknowledges Francesco Bagnaia's leading position at Ducati but expresses confidence in equal treatment. Marquez transitions to Ducati from Honda, where he was the leading rider. He recognizes Bagnaia's success and Ducati's commitment to valuing all riders equally. Both riders aim for the championship in 2025, with Ducati expecting a competitive yet collaborative environment.
Marc Marquez acknowledges that Francesco Bagnaia, as Ducati's reigning world champion and a pivotal figure in the team's recent dominance, rightfully holds a leading position within the squad. However, Marquez assures that he's confident Ducati will treat both riders equitably in the upcoming MotoGP season. Marquez transitions to Ducati after being the face of Honda's MotoGP program, where he spearheaded the development of the RC213V, tailored to his riding style.
The six-time champion recognizes Bagnaia's established success at Ducati, cementing his place as the team's most accomplished rider in history. Despite this, Marquez remains convinced that Ducati will uphold its core values that have contributed to its current success. 'I know where I'm arriving, I know which garage I'm arriving in,' Marquez stated at the team's 2025 bike launch in Italy. 'I'm arriving in the reference garage, where there's an established rider inside the garage. There's a rider with more experience inside the garage who has contributed a lot to Ducati and it's logical that he has the first say. 'But in the end, Ducati values all riders equally. That's what they've transmitted to me, that one or the other wins. That will be Ducati's intention and the riders' intention. If one doesn't win, the other should win.' Concerns have been raised about Ducati's management of two world champions within the same team, especially considering both Bagnaia and Marquez have a point to prove in 2025. Bagnaia is after his third title in four seasons after losing to Pramac rival Jorge Martin last year, while Marquez aims to defeat Bagnaia on his home turf, solidifying his position among the greatest riders of all time. Ducati, however, remains unconcerned about potential conflicts arising from Marquez's joining Bagnaia in the same garage. Team manager Davide Tardozzi even claimed it would be 'very easy' to manage the duo. Marquez shares this sentiment, stating that Ducati won't bestow preferential treatment to any rider this year. 'One thing that is clear in a factory team is that it's not number one and number two, it's just the more experienced rider in the garage and the less experienced rider in the garage,' Marquez explained, having spent 2024 with Ducati's satellite team Gresini. 'Of course, I’m also looking forward to understanding what they are doing inside the garage to be so performant dominating the results a lot these last years. I will try to understand, to learn about it. 'The target of the team is to try to win. If Pecco is not able to win, I will try to win. If I'm not able to win, he will try to win. 'But when you arrive there, you need to understand the way they are working and what they are doing to win all the last years.
