Kneeland was one of the key pieces Dallas added through the NFL draft. The attention now shifts to his development.

Western Michigan defensive lineman Marshawn Kneeland runs a drill at the NFL football scouting combine, Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024, in Indianapolis.has never played an NFL down. DeMarcus Lawrence, a four-time Pro Bowler, has played about 6,000 of them. Lawrence isIn the 2014 second round, Dallas drafted Lawrence out of Boise State. A decade later, in the second round, it took Kneeland out of Western Michigan.

“So, just watching play, he’s bouncing off of people. He’s chasing screens down. All of those things are some of the things that D-Law did when he was at Boise State. And plus, there is rush upside. There is ability to play outside and control the C-gap and to rush inside. So, there’s a lot of things that you can count on because that motor is always going to be there.

But arguably his greatest chance at optimizing his impact in 2024 and beyond is for Lawrence to be his best teacher, however long their tenures’ overlap lasts. “Veteran leadership carries you so much further than you’ve ever been,” coach Mike McCarthy said. “I think that’s a really strong focal point for us. We have the rookie orientation here in two weeks. We spend a lot of time to just make sure that the rookies are ready to be acclimated to our environment and how we do things. From the day they walk in there with the veterans on that Monday, that’s the biggest door that they’ll walk through.

“The connection that they’ll have with the locker room, yes, definitely. Talking to Tyler before the press conference morning, the ability to be able to sit next to Zack Martin and Tyler Smith to ask those questions, there’s nothing like veteran leadership.”The Cowboys added some pieces over the past few days. The attention now shifts to developing them.. Michael Gehlken joined the Cowboys beat for the Dallas Morning News in August 2019.
