It comes as the government's Energy Price Guarantee is to be scrapped 17 months earlier than promised
Martin Lewis has issued a warning as the energy price cap is predicted to rise above £4,000 next year. The cap, which regulates the amount that 24 million households pay for their gas and electricity, was replaced by the government's Energy Price Guarantee in October.
Read more: Martin Lewis explains what energy price guarantee's early end means for those on fixed tariffs For April to June 2023, the price cap is predicted to rise to £4,348 per year. It will decrease to £3,967 a year between July and September but will increase yet again to £3,722 from October to December.
He added: "If these are in the right ballpark, the promised 'targeted help' will need to be targeted up into middle incomes for people to get through this. Especially if it stays at those levels for the next winter. This is subject to the fact that the price cap in its old form will continue which is the standard working assumption, but not yet confirmed."
