Martin Lewis shared his 'crucial' checklist of money-saving steps all holidaymakers can take
Personal finance guru Martin Lewis has told all holidaymakers heading abroad this summer that they should "act now" if they want to save hundreds in extra costs - and potentially avoid being turned away at the airport, or being scammed by service providers.
Women who change their name after getting married and ask for a new passport are among those most likely to be affected, as this name change can often make your passport more than 10 years old. This means that, while your passport is still in date, some countries will not accept it. "If that's a tick, good. Yet even if that is fine, you also need to check that your passport is less than 10 years old. This has been something new that has caught people out."
Health insurance Having a European or Global Health Insurance Card can save you a steep hospital bill if you end up needing healthcare while on holiday, but many people try and get these at the last minute and end up getting scammed, or are forced to cough up cash when the doctor tells them their insurance is out of date.
