Martin Lewis, the Money Saving Expert, has uncovered an often-unadvertised way to become a Costco member for those who qualify through organizations like the AA, RAC, or National Trust.
Martin Lewis shared the advice in his latest Money Saving Expert newsletter. Costco , a fan-favourite shop with a cult following among bargain hunters, offers significant discounts on a wide range of products, including groceries, toys and tech. While it's not open to the general public but only to members who meet certain eligibility criteria - and their partners.
Eligibility usually depends on profession, with business owners, local government employees and people working in education, medicine, banking or the police generally granted access for an annual fee of £26.40. However, Martin Lewis, the Money Saving Expert (MSE) founder, has highlighted a different route into Costco in his latest newsletter. Members of British motoring associations the AA and the RAC, as well as members of the National Trust conservation charity, are eligible to join specific branches of Costco. But, it isn't always straightforward for members of these organisations to make purchases at the wholesaler. In the newsletter, Martin explained that 'Sadly, this doesn't work at all stores, but we called all 29 UK Costcos and were told this worked at Birmingham, Sheffield and Cardiff. The catch is you can only shop at the location you joined at.' Since Costco wouldn't confirm the policy to the money saving site, Martin advises 'calling ahead before making a special trip' if you're planning to shop at Costco using one of the three adjacent membership
