The latest advice from the Money Saving Expert, who hosts his own BBC Sounds podcast
Martin Lewis has issued a call to action for every UK household with an income below £40,000, suggesting they might be eligible for additional financial support. The renowned money-saving expert is urging people to explore the possibility of claiming Universal Credit , even if they believe their earnings are too high to qualify.
Money Saving Expert Mr Lewis highlighted that it's particularly worth investigating for households earning under £40,000 annually, or up to £55,000 for larger families with significant rent obligations. The BBC Sounds podcast host encourages individuals to use the benefits calculator on his MoneySavingExpert website to see if they might be entitled to UC payments.
A common issue is that millions miss out on potential benefits simply because they're unaware of the available assistance or they mistakenly think their income level disqualifies them. Now, households are being prompted to check whether they could receive additional financial help. The team at Martin Lewis' MoneySavingExpert have pointed out that while some households may find they're not entitled to any extra funds, it's always prudent to verify.
They further advise: "Martin's rule of thumb is if your household income's roughly under £40,000 , then it's worth plugging your info into our 10-min benefits calc to see if you're due anything ." "If you qualify, you'll get what's called the 'child element', worth around £288/month per child , plus your standard allowance. And, if in work, you may get further help towards childcare costs on top."
