The consumer champion explained that you won’t notice the change, but it will save money.

The Martin Lewis Money Show Live returned for a new series earlier this week focusing on keeping household costs down this winter. The consumer champion spent most of the jam-packed programme sharing ways on energy bills, explaining that despite the lower price cap now in effect, most people will see a rise this winter due to the removal of the UK Government’s Energy Bill Support Scheme.

Martin told ITV viewers: “This one’s important. Combi boilers, which is what most people have, they have a flow rate - that’s the temperature of the water that is going around the system. Often it is set at an inefficiently high rate and turning it down, you won’t notice any difference, you won’t notice the heating in your house change, but it can save you £100 a year.”

One viewer contacted the show to tell Martin how he had dropped his combi boiler temperature from 75 degrees celsius to 60 degrees celsius and is “looking forward to the savings”. It’s important to understand that there’s nothing complicated in doing it and no tinkering with dangerous boiler parts - the handy tool on the website gives step-by-step instructions on what to do.
