Martin Lewis is urging drivers to use a 20p trick to check if their tyres will pass an MOT. For many drivers the MOT renewal season is coming up, as many motorists opt to buy a car in August ahead of the new number plates coming out or in September to be one of the first in the newest plates.
He explained that more than one in 20 drivers fail their MOT because of their tyres as both tyre tread depth and tyre pressure can be causes of an MOT failure. The average cost of an MOT for a standard car is £54.85 according to Gov.uk, so you could lose out on £54.85 and have to shell out again for a second test just because of worn or flat tyres reports Yorkshire Live.

According to the Money Saving Expert, other common reasons for a car to fail its MOT is for its lights, such as headlights, brake lights and fog lights as well as reverse lights.
