Marvel Rivals players have been requesting a Role Queue feature, but game director Guangyun Chen says it won't be implemented. Chen believes Role Queue discourages experimentation and goes against the open-ended strategy NetEase wants to promote.
With millions of players and a sizable number of bots, Marvel Rivals has already achieved significant success. However, with millions of players comes a flood of player requests, and many are urging the developers to implement a Role Queue feature. Following the release of Season 1's new heroes and the announcement that the game will receive a new hero every month and a half, players have voiced their desire for a Role Queue .
Game director Guangyun Chen, however, has stated that this will not be happening. In an interview with Metro, Chen explained that the game will not have a Role Queue because it discourages experimentation within the multiplayer experience. In other hero shooters, such as Overwatch, the Role Queue compels teams to adhere to specific role compositions. NetEase, however, wants players to continue exploring their own paths to victory. Chen posits that this allows for a “Marvel-style approach” where players can triumph with the most unconventional team combinations through skill and strategy. Instead of the game dictating strategic choices, players have the freedom to discover them themselves. “It’s all about giving the players the freedom to experiment and find their unique strategies, as we’ve seen in many games and streams,” Chen explained. “Post-launch, people have been exploring an indefinite amount of team compositions, and we’re excited about what’s coming. We believe no role queue will lead to a richer gaming experience for everyone.” The game director emphasized that NetEase aims to provide freedom through “team comp possibilities,” “heero design,” and “team-up mechanics.” While it may be slightly more overwhelming than being restricted to a specific role, it also encourages players to continuously discover new winning strategies.
