The Canadian-inspired cake has gone down really well with other bakers
Miserable weather means it's time to finally retire that activewear for the year and focus on something far more enjoyable - cake. The internet means there is a seemingly endless array of recipes put together by a wide variety of celebrity chefs and less well-known bakers who share their creations on TikTok.
Many are absolutely perfect for the time of year when you want a treat with a warm drink, and baking legend Mary Berry has plenty on offer, too. Her maple syrup cake is a real hit, and many users on the BBC Good Food website have even suggested ways to make it better. One user wrote: "It was a nice bake and the flavour is wonderful. Didn't come across any problems at all.
"I used all of the ingredients and didn't find it expensive as I already had the majority of the ingredients. I would recommend it to everyone, especially if you're bored of having Victoria sponge cakes and chocolate cakes.""I did find cutting it in three quite tricky, but looked alright in the end! Tasted really good and the maple syrup was subtle but definitely there.
Others suggested using more maple syrup to enhance the flavour, while others said an eight-inch tin was too small. One wrote: "I used slightly more maple syrup and ginger then specified to really bring the flavour out and was pleasantly surprised for my first attempt!"
