The Masked Singer UK costume designer, Tim Simpson, has revealed that the Dressed Crab costume is the heaviest of this year's competition, weighing a staggering 14 kilograms. Simpson, creative director of Plunge Creations, explained that the costume's elaborate red ruffles and large crinoline structure contribute to its considerable weight. He expressed amazement at how the performer manages to sing and move with such a heavy garment, praising their strength and energy.
Simpson also highlighted the complexity of the costume, noting the intricate details and the challenge of incorporating moving pincers. He compared the weight to that of a medium-sized dog, several gallons of milk, or two bowling balls. This year's Masked Singer UK has seen several impressive costumes, including the previous record-holder, Knitting, which weighed approximately 20 kilograms. Robobunny, worn by Mark Feehily in the previous series, was also noted for its challenging design due to its size and intricate puppet mechanism. Simpson emphasized the dedication and skill of the performers who brave these elaborate and often heavy costumes, praising their resilience in the face of heat, restriction, and claustrophobia
