Mayor Bloomberg says the entire city is pulling for Erinn Phelan
Doctors at Kings County Hospital havedeclared Phelan brain dead.The smashed up Acura wasfound here on Atlantic Avenue just a few blocks away in front of the AtlanticTerminal.The car is registered to31-year-old Cindy Jasmin of the Bronx and police say she fits the descriptionof the woman driving the car Sunday morning. They are actively looking for her.An electronic sign has been set up near the scene by police asking for anyonewith information to come forward.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg, New York:"This young woman is a fighter. She's got a big heart andthough she's only been living here for a few short months she's a New Yorkerand everyone in the city is pulling for her to get through this." Erinn Phelan's family isat her bedside. She grew up in Swapscott, Massachusetts and made quite animpression. It was a sad day at Swampscott High where teachers who knew her aregrieving.Our international relations club,national honor society.She was the class leader that made things happen. It's myunderstanding that when she was a senior she was voted most likely to be nextpresident of the United States.
Brown University President Ruth J. Simmons released a statement from theuniversity reading, in part,"The Brown community is profoundly saddenedby this tragedy. We embrace Erinn andAlma's families and offer them our heartfelt concern and offers of assistanceduring this painful and challenging time.
