Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has said cancelling the 2026 Commonwealth Games will “only cost” the state $380 million but Small Business Women Australia Founder Amanda Rose claims the real figure is much higher. “He’s not including the $1.2 billion of contracts that small and medium businesses will now not have,” Ms Rose told Sky News Australia. “The cost on the athletes and their opportunities that have been pretty much decimated and completely thrown out, so it actually has a massive cost. “This is a cost of living crisis and to say it’s only $380 million really shows a disconnect between him as a leader and what’s really going on in his state and this country – it will cost more.”
