Firefighters were battling a three-alarm fire that left a commercial building in Lynwood damaged Wednesday morning. According to authorities, the fire was reported around 8:30 a.m. at a textiles warehouse in the 5400 block of Cortland Street, near the 105 and 710 Freeways, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.SkyFOX over the massive fire showed thick, black smoke billowing out of the building as two ladder pipes were up, releasing large amounts of water to control the fire.
Workers using forklifts also moved pallets of materials in an outdoor storage yard away from the fire.Firebaugh High School next door was evacuated, as well as several other buildings in the surrounding area.Power lines were also down in the area, which posed a big danger for firefighters as it's unknown if the lines were charged or not. LACoFD Fire Chief Trey Espy said crews had to turn the electricity off in the area, which in turn shut down the school.
