Massive flames close to homes have forced evacuations of about 40 homes near Ensign Peak in Salt Lake City after fire broke out northwest of the Utah State Capitol Building.
The weather and wind have mellowed out, Silverthorne, said. "That's one thing that's in our advantage." Once the fire started progressing, additional assets were sent out with the Department of Natural Resources and Utah Northern Fire Protection. More than six agencies and 100 firefighters are now responding, Silverthorne said.
"Take only the essential items you have ready," SLC Fire posted on social media. "Close and lock windows and doors as you leave."There is an evacuation shelter at the east building of the Utah State Capitol.
