MasterChef: The Professionals champion Alex Webb has shared a heartwarming story about host Gregg Wallace 's kindness, revealing how Wallace's gesture left a lasting impression. Webb, who won the BBC cooking competition in 2020, spoke about his experience with Wallace behind the scenes. He recounted a touching incident that occurred during Christmas when his father was hospitalized. Wallace sent a special message for his family, which Webb cherished.
He shared, 'But Gregg did a lovely message for him, and he sent it to him at Christmas time. So having Christmas, and dad was in hospital, and so things like that, he did a lovely message, and I'll never forget that.' Wallace's thoughtful gesture during a difficult time for Webb's family demonstrated his compassion and understanding.Webb's father, Phillip, sadly passed away in 2022 at the age of 61 after battling lung cancer. Following allegations of 'inappropriate behaviour', Wallace stepped back from his judging role on MasterChef, with food critic Grace Dent taking his place. Webb expressed his confidence in Dent's abilities, stating, 'Grace Dent is obviously the new judge (and) she was actually on my series, and she was really great. So I'm sure she'll do really well.'Webb's journey on MasterChef wasn't solely about winning. He initially aimed to reach the final three contestants, which would have brought the filming crew to his parents' home. He admitted, 'I went there to kind of have fun and compete, and I never thought, 'Oh, I'm going to win this'. My thing was I wanted to get to the final three so then the cameras would come back to my mum and dad's house. That was my, that was my kind of thing.' Since his victory, Webb's career has flourished. He's working towards opening his own restaurant, caters for private clients, holds an annual residency in the Maldives, and even has his own cider named Alex Webb Signature Blend. In a special celebration of MasterChef's 35th anniversary, Webb will be collaborating with the other 2020 finalists for a pop-up restaurant event in London.
