Sarah Ferguson presents Australia's premier daily current affairs program, delivering agenda-setting public affairs journalism and interviews that hold the powerful to account. Plus political analysis from Laura Tingle.
SARAH FERGUSON: For millions of Australians swept up in Matildas fever during last year's World Cup , Mackenzie Arnold 's strength and composure in goal - especially saving penalties in a crucial contest against France in the quarterfinals - was a highlight.
But I mean, before a major tournament, especially a semifinal, we do a lot of research at the goalkeeper meetings and all of that. So we usually have in mind what way we're going to go before we do it.MACKENZIE ARNOLD: Yeah, basically. Basically, what it comes down to, especially on that night at Suncorp - there was so much going on. Obviously the crowd was insane. At the time, you sort of just have to focus on what you need to do.
But, yeah, I guess straight after that, I knew it wasn't over. I still had the job to do. So thankfully, I could do that and sort of get one back. So, yeah, it came quite naturally to me at the end of the day but definitely one that I was hesitant for at the start. So, it was definitely a process of it, and a journey but I definitely don't think that I would have gone down that road if it wasn't for my brother, for sure.MACKENZIE ARNOLD: Not yet. I'm slowly getting there. I'm starting to train a little bit more, getting a bit more comfortable with them. I think I just sort of want to get to the place that I'm not thinking about them or fiddling around with them or anything.
But at the end of the day, I think it needed to happen that way for us to get that mutual respect and now, I couldn't thank him more for everything that he's done for me, and the respect that he has for me as well.MACKENZIE ARNOLD: That's a hard one, actually. I don't know, I think it comes hand in hand with it.
