Lovey and Lou Borenstein opened the Chompie’s Bagel Factory in 1979 at 32nd Street and Shea Boulevard in Phoenix.with her husband, Lou, more than 40 years ago in Phoenix, has died shortly before what would have been her 90th birthday.
The Chompie's bakery operates restaurants throughout the Valley and sells its bagels out of local grocery stores. The Borensteins brought their family recipes from New York City to Arizona and opened their bagel factory in 1979 near 32nd Street and Shea Boulevard.
