Pop icon Matt Goss shares stories of over-the-top fan encounters from his three-decade career, ranging from comical to unnerving. He reflects on how fan expectations have changed and discusses the dark side of fame, including an experience with an online imposter who became obsessed with his whereabouts.
Matt Goss , the 56-year-old pop icon and former frontman of Bros , still possesses that irresistible charm that catapulted him to teenage heartthrob status in the late 1980s. In an exclusive conversation with OK!, Matt, who is preparing for his UK tour, Matt Goss : The Hits and More, fondly recounts some of the wild fan encounters from his three-decade-long career.
Now residing in London after spending 17 years in Los Angeles—including a 12-year residency in Vegas—Matt reveals that his fans' expectations have evolved over the years. 'Once upon a time, female fans wanted a hug and a kiss,' he shares. 'Now, they want everything! It's a... sexier place. When you're older, you know exactly what you want. My older fans do – and it's not just a hug and a kiss anymore!' He reminisces about some unforgettable fan encounters from his early days, like the time a female fan hiding under his hotel bed on tour suddenly grabbed his legs. 'Yeah, they grabbed my ankles and let's just say, I did not react in a cool way. I screamed my head off and shot off the bed,' he admits, laughing. Matt recalls a wild tale of returning to his hotel room and discovering a naked fan waiting for him in the shower. Describing his shock, he recounts, 'When I told my mates, they laughed and asked, 'Did you have a good time? ' I was like, 'No! This person's been waiting in the shower anywhere between two and five hours to meet me. That's not someone I want to be getting involved with!' He takes these bizarre encounters as part of life on tour, though he admits to still giving his hotel rooms a thorough check before settling in, reports the Mirror. But it's not all laughs and odd anecdotes; the celebrity also delves into the more sinister aspects of fame. He talks about being the target of an imposter online, revealing that the Met Police apprehended the catfish after quite an ordeal. Even though the situation was handled by the authorities, Matt shares the disturbing aftermath, where the victim's frustration turned into an obsession with his whereabouts: 'I'm sympathetic to the person who was duped, but it started to make them very angry, then they began to show up at places I frequent,' adding the unnerving detail, 'At one point, it was a restaurant near my house.
