The Health Secretary praised the 'excellent piece of contingency planning'.
Matt Hancock praised his team’s ‘excellent piece of contingency planning’ after 50,000 coronavirus samples had to be sent for processing in the US tests across the pond to be processed.
Matt Hancock said the 50,000 samples were taken to America after a cabinet broke in one of the labs and praised the ‘excellent piece of contingency planning’ making it possible to send them. He told Sky News: ‘I’m very pleased with how that operated. We put in place a contract as a contingency in case any of the labs here broke down. One of them did have a problem with one of the cabinets, so an equipment failure.
‘Because the team had put in place that contingency contract with an American company, it meant that we could keep processing the tests. I’m really glad we’re up to 100,000 tests a day, it’s very, very important knowing who’s got the virus and the team have done an absolutely magnificent job.
