The former MK Dons man says he's got more freedom in the new system but work off the park is also helping.
Matt O’Riley has revealed how a better mental wellbeing and subtle tactical tweaks by Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers have combined to help him get off to a flyer this season.
The 22-year-old former MK Dons man appears to be one of the players who has benefited most from the arrival of Rodgers but much of it is down to his own work off the park as he worked “relentlessly” on being in a better frame of mind. O’Riley spoke of the importance of mental health lats season and how he works with a life coach.
“I’ve always been settled in Glasgow. I think it’s more of a mindful thing when I’m on the pitch. If your head is somewhere else or thinking too much then, naturally, you won’t be as focused on the game and what you need to do in that given moment so when I’m in a place which is calm and clear, with the flow of things, then I feel good and I feel that’s where I’m at just now.”
“I’m probably slightly more involved at times in the build-up aspect with that licence to get forward as well. I’ve got a little more freedom to get down and up which I enjoy doing because I quite like seeing the play develop and reading the play and I can pick my moment to arrive in the box or arrive in our defensive box to help there.
