A teenager died after he was stabbed in the chest in a street brawl in Ormskirk after going to help a pal who said he had been attacked, a court heard. Matthew Daulby, 19, was among a group of 10 men who travelled from Maghull to Ormskirk to settle a score after their friend, who was on crutches, said he had been punched three times in the mouth.
She said: “They were all saying, ‘what’s happened?’ It’s not like Matthew to go out and cause dramas. He was a lover, not a fighter, but they were all saying ‘we’ve got to go down.’" She said: “Matthew has never even been involved in anything like that. There was occasionally some petty boys arguing, but Matthew literally never argued with anyone. We could go anywhere and wouldn’t be looking over our shoulder because everyone loved Matthew and Matthew loved everyone.”
At around midnight, the boys came upon Finley Cook, 20, Henry Houghton, 18, and a third man who can not be named for legal reasons, in Railway Road. A large brawl broke out between the two groups and during the melee, Matthew suffered a cut to his head and a stab wound to his chest.
