Max Scherzer exited after two innings because of arm fatigue in his first start for the Texas Rangers out of the All-Star break.
ARLINGTON, Texas —
He then threw a bullpen Wednesday while at home in Florida during the break, and felt he was going to be recovered from that for the start, though he was concerned about the pitch count and how deep he could go if he started to have any issues.Scherzer threw 34 of his 53 pitches for strikes while allowing five hits and two walks.
Scherzer’s velocity was down a bit, with 20 fastballs averaging 91.3 mph — below his season average of 92.7 mph. It was also down on his 11 sliders and 11 changeups.
