Max Verstappen sealed a fourth straight title in F1 2024, but his season was not without its struggles.
Former Ferrari driver Jean Alesi says it should not be “taken for granted” to have seen Max Verstappen “in crisis” at Red Bull during the F1 2024 season., 27, secured a fourth consecutive World Championship this year in his most hard-fought season since his defeat of Lewis Hamilton in 2021.Despite winning nine races in total, including four of the first five, the Dutchman suffered a 10-race winless streak between his victories in Spain and Brazil , his longest barren run since the 2020 season.
With Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes all winning multiple races this season, F1 2025 is widely expected to be the most competitive campaign for some time in what is set to be the final year of the current regulations., Alesi, who made 201 grand prix starts for the likes of Ferrari, Tyrrell and Benetton between 1989 and 2001, admitted it was fascinating to watch Verstappen under pressure in F1 2024.
He said: “Last year I had a dominant car, but I always felt that not everyone appreciated what we achieved as a team, winning 10 in a row. “But I’m also very proud of this season because for most of the season, I would say for 70 per cent of the season, we didn’t have the fastest car, but actually we still extended our lead, so that is definitely something that I’m very proud of.
