Qatar — For all his dominance, Max Verstappen does seem to not win Formula One championships in a straightforward fashion. Verstappen’s first title in 2021 came in Abu Dhabi after race director Michael Masi erroneously called in the safety car with one lap remaining. Verstappen overtook Lewis Hamilton on the last lap of the season to win the championship in one of the most controversial moments in the sport’s recent history.
