TV presenter Maya Jama has opened up about her relationship status with rapper Stormzy , stating they are content in the 'friendship zone' after their second split. The power couple first started dating back in 2014 and briefly parted ways in 2019, only to rekindle things in August 2023. However, by July 2024, 30 year old Jama and 31 year old Stormzy , whose real name is Michael Omari, decided to go their separate ways once more.
Speaking to the Guardian, Jama shared: 'No, I think we’re happy in this friendship zone.' She also expressed how she understands public fascination with celebrity relationships, saying: 'I think it’s nice that people love him for being cute and love me for being cute, and when two people you like come together then people get excited by it.' She pondered on the nature of fame and romance, adding : 'That’s just what happens in the celebrity world, don’t you think? '. She added: 'Anybody I date is going to be a thing at the moment,' and 'Because everybody I’m seen with – any friend, or my cousin recently – it’s Maya and the mystery man, so I can’t be seen with any man publicly without the media making a story of it.'
