Parañaque City Mayor Eric Olivarez issued a memorandum on March 20, concerning the alarming increase in rabies cases in the city.
Olivarez, who chairs the Parañaque Animal Response Team , said despite the massive effort of the city government to eradicate the deadly rabies virus through intensified vaccination schedules and population control program, three cases were reported by the City Veterinary Service Office since January.
Olivarez called on pet owners for their full cooperation in order to win the battle to stop the spread of the highly fatal disease in the city.Olivarez said all dogs and cats must be kept indoors or within the secured confines of pet owners property. All pets being walked must be kept leashed at all times. Off-leashing is highly discouraged especially in crowded areas.All animals caught should be claimed within 72 hours from either in barangay or city pound.
The mayor said pets not claimed within 72 hours will be declared as an abandoned and shall be treated in accordance with the prevailing animal welfare laws, rules and regulations.related stories
