Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte joined women rights advocates in celebrating the Women’s Month during the Purple Action Day led by the Commission of Human Rights of the Philippines on Wednesday, March 1.
The mayor shared the stories of some women who were able to achieve goals and provide for their families through determination and assistance from various city government programs. Belmonte also shared some of the cities initiatives to provide opportunities for women and protect their rights such as the establishment of the Gender and Development Council Office that implements gender and development-related programs; the city’s urban farms and over 60,000 green jobs where 70 percent of the workers are women; and the “Tindahan ni Ate Joy” that already provided livelihood assistance to over 2,600 female micro-entrepreneurs in the city.
