) - If you took a trip to Dauphin Island’s East End beach recently, you may have run into a sign about a dune restoration project.“We’re very proud to partner with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation,” said Collier. “They actually submitted the funding for this particular project around $23 million.”
Construction will focus on restoring one mile of the island. Collier says that area where birds flock had suffered erosion and degradation over the years as a result of storms and other issues. Speaking of storms, Collier says Tuesday’s rain and flooding had little to no impact on the project timeline.
“They do include down days as far as weather conditions, they’ve had some mechanical issues and all that’s pretty common with these types of projects,” adds Collier.
