and its body-colored bumpers, wheel arches, and enlarged muffler tips. The Grand Journey, meanwhile, is a more rugged take on the three-row SUV.
Inside, the 2023 CX-8 gains more technology. This starts with a new razor-sharp 7-inch digital instrument display coupled with a 10.25-inch infotainment display equipped with the latest Mazda Connect system. It also gains wireless Apple CarPlay and added USB Type C ports.
In terms of performance, the new CX-8 retains its three powertrains—the normally-aspirated 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G, the 2.2-liter Skyactiv-D, and the turbocharged 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G. These engines are mated to a 6-speed automatic. That said, it does benefit from better ride and handling thanks to revised springs and dampers. Furthermore, the Mazda Intelligent Drive Select now adds a third mode: “Off-Road” which joins the current “Normal” and “Sport” modes.
Safety-wise, the CX-8 improves its adaptive LED headlights which now house 20 LED arrays for improved nighttime visibility. Its adaptive cruise control also adds Cruising & Traffic Support enabling it to work starting from a standstill, while also offering self-steering support. The 2023 Mazda CX-8 goes on sale in its home market this December with its first export market, Australia, getting it by March 2023.
