So, this means the restaurant chain will eventually remove the self-beverage stations – the fountain drink dispensers — where a goal is to be completely rid of them by 2032.
In fact, some restaurants have already begun the transition away from self-serve drinks, the State Journal Register, part of the USA Today Network, reported last year.Individual franchises will dictate whether their restaurant will charge for refills, the company confirmed via email toOnce the change happens, some locations could take the self-serve beverage stations and install a behind-the-counter drink station for crew members to fill drinks.
Photos of barren countertops where self-serve drink stations once stood at local restaurants have made their rounds on social media as others have expressed outrage over the change, where a“Seriously, this is such a bad idea. This is a huge reason I would choose McDonald’s over another option. Shooting themselves in the foot with this one,” one person wrote.“McDonald’s made over $25 billion in profits this year, but they’re charging for soda refills.
